49ers name Jed York team president
Dec 28, 2008 - 8:07 PM SANTA CLARA, California (Ticker) -- The San Francisco 49ers on Sunday named Jed York as their new team president. The eldest son of owners John and Denise DeBartolo York has been working with the team as "vice president of strategic planning" since 2005.
York, 27, is younger than 24 of the 53 players on the 49ers' current roster.
"We are excited about the future of the 49ers in Jed's hands," John York said.
In his previous role, Jed York was responsible for the integration of brand strategies and projects related to the long-term operational and financial development of the organization.
"It was important that Jed learn every aspect of the 49ers and grow into this leadership role," Denise DeBartolo said.
Jed York's first order of business will be determining the future of interim head coach Mike Singletary. Multiple media outlets reported that the 49ers are set to offer the Hall of Fame linebacker a multi-year contract.
San Francisco, which hosts Washington Sunday, is 4-4 since Singletary took over for Mike Nolan.
