Chargers' Tomlinson has strained groin

Dec 29, 2008 - 11:38 PM SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson has a strained groin which could limit his effectiveness in Saturday's playoff contest against the Indianapolis Colts.

Tomlinson left Sunday's 52-21 victory over the Denver Broncos in the fourth quarter due to the injury. He rushed for 96 yards and a season-high three touchdowns in the contest.

An MRI exam on Monday confirmed it was a groin strain.

"A little sore today, it's always worse the day after," Tomlinson said. "I don't think I'll be 100 percent, but we'll see what happens. It's day to day. We'll see how it goes."

Chargers head coach Norv Turner said the training staff is confident that Tomlinson will gradually improve during the week.

"They expect him as the week goes on to get better and be able to practice and be ready to play," he said.

Turner also said tight end Antonio Gates, who sprained an ankle in Sunday's game, also should be ready for the Colts.

"It looks good," Turner said.

Gates had three receptions for 49 yards against Denver.
