Lions interested in Cowboys' Garrett
Dec 30, 2008 - 7:56 PM FORT WORTH, Texas (Ticker) -- The Detroit Lions have received permission from the Dallas Cowboys to interview offensive coordinator Jason Garrett for their head coaching vacancy, according to a published report. This past weekend, Detroit became the only team in NFL history to finish the season 0-16, prompting the organization to fire head coach Rod Marinelli on Monday.
Citing an NFL source, the Forth Worth Star-Telegram reported Tuesday that the Lions have set their sights on Garrett.
The NFL's most sought-after assistant last offseason, Garrett interviewed for head coaching positions in Atlanta and Baltimore.
Garrett decided to stay in Dallas when owner Jerry Jones offered him a $3 million contract to remain with the team. That move led many to believe that Garrett was the obvious heir apparent to current Dallas head coach Wade Phillips.
Jones, however, stated this weekend that Phillips will be retained for next season.
No one has shouted yet.
