Browns to interview Mangini

Dec 30, 2008 - 8:57 PM CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Cleveland Browns are expected to interview former New York Jets coach Eric Mangini for their coaching vacancy, according to multiple reports.

Mangini, who began his career with the Browns in 1994 as a ballboy and also served as a public relations assistant with the franchise, was fired as Jets coach Monday.

In three seasons with the Jets, Mangini compiled a 23-25 record, including a 10-6 mark in his first campaign when New York reached the playoffs.

The Jets went 9-7 this past season, but collapsed down to the stretch as they lost four of their last five games to miss the playoffs.

The Browns completed a 4-12 season Sunday, then began a major overhaul by firing general manager Phil Savage and coach Romeo Crennel.

Mangini, 37, is one of several candidates to replace Crennel. Others the Browns are expected to target are New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.
