Saints RB Bush undergoes surgery

Jan 7, 2009 - 7:07 AM NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee Tuesday, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.

The Saints expect Bush to be ready for the start of training camp in July, although it is the third surgery on his knee in the past two years.

"I wouldn't want to call (the surgery) minor, because he's got a pretty significant period of rehab time" New Orleans general manager Mickey Loomis told the Times-Picayune. "But at the end of it, he shouldn't have any issues."

The 2006 second overall pick missed six games this season for the Saints and had 106 carries for 404 yards and 52 receptions for 440 yards. He also had 20 punt returns for 270 yards and totaled nine touchdowns, including three on punt returns.

Bush played in all 16 games and gained 1,307 yards from scrimmage during his rookie season in 2006, but missed four contests in 2007 after tearing his posterior cruciate ligament.

During a Week Seven loss at Carolina, Bush tore his meniscus, which caused him to miss four games. After a two-contest return, he missed the final two games with his latest knee injury.
