Former Bills QB Kemp battling cancer
Jan 7, 2009 - 9:35 PM BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- Jack Kemp, the former Buffalo Bills quarterback and Republican vice-presidential candidate, has been diagnosed with cancer.According to a statement released by his office, the 73-year-old Kemp has been undergoing tests to determine the origin of the disease and the options for continued treatment.
Spokeswoman Bona Park told the Buffalo News that the type of cancer being treated is undetermined.
"He will continue to serve as chairman of Kemp Partners and plans to remain involved in his business, charitable and politically related activities," Park said.
A nine-term congressman from 1971-1989, Kemp was the presidential running mate of former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole in 1996.
Kemp entered politics following a 13-year playing career, which included leading the Bills to American Football League championships in 1964 and 1965.
