Chargers' Tomlinson has torn tendon, will try to play

Jan 8, 2009 - 2:48 AM SAN DIEGO (Ticker) - San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson is listed as doubtful for Sunday's AFC divisional round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers thanks to a groin injury.

However, according to ESPN, Tomlinson has a torn tendon in the groin but still will attempt to give it a go. Citing sources, the network reported on its web site that physical therapy has given him some relief.

Tomlinson wouldn't let on either way during a press conference Wednesday.

"I don't know. All this time I've been taking it day by day," Tomlinson said. "I think, depending on the training staff and where they think I am, if they think I should, obviously that's when I'll try to push it.

"We've talked about it. That's why they have me listed as doubtful is because the thing that I did last week ... I couldn't do much. Obviously, it's not feeling much better this week, it kind of puts you in a position where you have to be listed as doubtful."

Tomlinson started against the Indianapolis Colts in Saturday's wild card contest and gained 25 yards on five carries, including a 3-yard scoring run with 10:15 left in the second quarter.

As it turned out, that proved to be his last carry. Tomlinson watched the remainder of the game from the sideline as his replacement, Darren Sproles, burned the Colts for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Sproles also returned four kicks and three punts while amassing 328 all-purpose yards - the third-highest total in playoff history.
