Seahawks name Knapp offensive coordinator
Jan 8, 2009 - 11:57 PM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Seattle Seahawks on Thursday named Greg Knapp their new offensive coordinator.Knapp joins the Seahawks after spending two years in the same capacity with the Oakland Raiders. His role was limited late in the season when Raiders interim coach Tom Cable began calling plays.
It is the first move by new head coach Jim Mora Jr., who is replacing Mike Holmgren.
Mora was designated as Holmgren's successor last February, when the franchise's all-time winningest coach announced he would be taking a hiatus after the 2008 season.
Mora has brought in his good friend Knapp to replace Gil Haskell, who had been Seattle's offensive coordinator for the last nine seasons. Knapp was the offensive coordinator under Mora when he was the coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2004-06.
Knapp and Mora began working together in San Francisco as assistants in 1997.
