Report: Cowboys release S Williams
Mar 5, 2009 - 3:44 PM DALLAS (Ticker) -- Terrell Owens is not the only player being shown the door by the Dallas Cowboys.Dallas on Thursday also released safety Roy Williams, a five-time Pro Bowl selection and former No. 1 pick of the club.
Williams confirmed his released to the Dallas Morning News.
Named to five consecutive Pro Bowls from 2003-07, Williams earned a reputation as a ferocious hitter for the Cowboys, but he was limited to three games last season due to a forearm fracture.
Williams, 28, earned notoriety for his horse-collar tackles, which have since been banned by the league under what is known as the "Williams Rule."
The No. 8 overall pick in 2002, Williams had 19 career interceptions - returning three for touchdowns - along with 611 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks in his seven-year tenure with the Cowboys.
He had missed just one game prior to last season.
