Luongo, Heatley, Thornton named NHL's Three Stars

Jan 8, 2007 - 7:36 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo, Ottawa Senators left wing Dany Heatley and San Jose Sharks center Joe Thornton were named the NHL's "Three Stars of the Week" on Monday.

Acquired in an offseason trade with the Florida Panthers, Luongo was the first star, backstopping the Canucks to wins in all four games last week, two in shootouts. The star netminder posted a 1.92 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage.

In 41 games this season, Luongo has a 24-15-1 record with a 2.44 GAA, a .914 save percentage and two shutouts.

Heatley collected five goals and three assists to lead the league in scoring last week. He recorded his third hat trick of the season Wednesday against Buffalo and registered two goals Sunday against Philadelphia.

Heatley has recorded team highs of 25 goals and 28 assists in 44 games this season.

Thornton collected seven assists to lead the Sharks to victories in both games last week. The reigning Hart and Art Ross Trophy winner, Thornton has 11 tallies and 42 assists in 42 contests this season.
