Jovanovski, McDonald added to Western Conference roster

Jan 19, 2007 - 11:22 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Though not the way they likely would have preferred, Ed Jovanovski and Andy McDonald are heading to the All-Star Game.

The Phoenix Coyotes defenseman and Anaheim Ducks center on Friday were added to the Western Conference's roster for the midseason gala, which will take place Wednesday in Dallas.

In making his fourth All-Star appearance, Jovanovski will be replacing Anaheim's Scott Niedermayer, who was voted to the team as a starter but will not play due to a stress fracture in his right foot. Niedermayer, however, is not expected to miss any regular-season action for the Ducks.

A first-time All-Star, McDonald was chosen to replace Henrik Zetterberg of the Detroit Red Wings, who will miss the contest with an undisclosed injury.

In his first season with the Coyotes, the 30-year-old Jovanovski leads the team's defensemen in scoring with 27 points in 42 games. He also is second on the club with an average ice time of 23 minutes, 14 seconds.

McDonald, 29, ranks second on the Ducks in scoring with 45 points, including 22 in his last 20 games. Signed as an undrafted free agent in April 2000, he led the team with 51 assists and seven game-winning goals last season.
