Red Wings re-sign LW Holmstrom to three-year deal
Feb 17, 2007 - 8:48 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Another strong season has earned Tomas Holmstrom some security.Holmstrom, who has reached the 20-goal plateau for the third time in four seasons this campaign, on Saturday was re-signed to a three-year contract by the Detroit Red Wings.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
A 10th-round pick in 1994, Holmstrom is in his 11th season with the Red Wings. The 34-year-old Swede entered Saturday with 20 goals and 20 assists in 56 games this campaign. He netted a career-high 29 tallies in 2005-06.
In 678 career contests, the left wing has collected 145 goals and 335 points. He was a member of Detroit's Stanley Cup championship teams in 1997, 1998 and 2002 and also helped his native Sweden capture the gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino.
