Gs Lundqvist, Havlak, RW Cheechoo named NHL's Three Stars

Mar 26, 2007 - 4:40 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- It was a good week to be a goaltender.

Goaltenders Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers and Jaroslav Halak of the Montreal Canadiens and right wing Jonathan Cheechoo of the San Jose Sharks on Monday were named the NHL's "Three Stars."

Lundqvist was named the league's First Star after posting a 4-0-0 record and a 0.72 goals-against average with a .974 save percentage.

Behind the play of Lundqvist, the Rangers (39-28-9) have moved up to sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 87 points.

Trying to backstop the Canadiens into the playoffs, Halak was named the Third Star. The Slovakian rookie went 3-0-0 with a 1.33 GAA, including his first career shutout in a 1-0 triumph over Boston on Tuesday.

Montreal (39-31-6) is tied with defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina for the East's final playoff spot with 84 points.

Cheechoo helped the Sharks to a 2-1 week by leading all players with eight points (six goals, two assists). Included in his week was his seventh career hat trick in a 5-1 win over Atlanta on Thursday.

San Jose (46-26-4) is tied with Dallas for second place in the Pacific Division with 96 points, four behind Anaheim.
