Maple Leafs sign LW Ponikarovsky to three-year extension

May 10, 2007 - 10:57 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs attended to another of their potential restricted free agents Thursday, signing left wing Alexei Ponikarovsky to a three-year contract extension.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Two days after securing defenseman Ian White for three years, the Maple Leafs did the same with Ponikarovsky, who enjoyed the best season of his NHL career in 2006-07.

While matching his career high of 21 goals set the previous campaign, the 27-year-old Ukrainian also posted career bests of 24 assists, 45 points, six power-play goals and 198 shots.

Tied for third on the Maple Leafs this past season with a plus-8 rating, Ponikarovsky has registered 54 goals and 66 assists in 268 career games. The 1998 fourth-round pick also represented his country at the 2002 Winter Olympics, notching one tally and one assist in four contests.
