Stars re-sign Cs Ribeiro, Lundqvist

Jul 12, 2007 - 10:48 PM FRISCO, Texas (Ticker) -- The Dallas Stars re-signed a pair of centers Thursday, inking Mike Ribeiro to a one-year contract and Joel Lundqvist to a two-year deal.

Ribeiro will receive $2.8 million, while Lundqvist will make $1.45 million.

A second-round pick of Montreal in 1998, Ribeiro was acquired from the Canadiens on September 30. The 27-year-old led the Stars in scoring in his first season with the team, recording 59 points (18 goals, 41 assists) in 81 games.

"Mike brought a great deal of playmaking and offensive ability in his first year with our club, and we look forward to his continued contributions," Dallas general manager Doug Armstrong said.

Ribeiro, who had filed for arbitration, has collected 68 tallies and 144 assists in 357 career contests with the Canadiens and Stars.

Lundqvist, 25, was selected in the third round of the 2000 draft. The twin brother of New York Rangers goaltender Henrik, he made his NHL debut this past season, registering three goals and three assists in 36 regular-season games while leading the club with a 62.6 percent success rate on faceoffs.

"Joel's rookie season was a positive one, and we envision his role increasing as he gains more experience in the NHL," Armstrong said.

A native of Sweden, Joel Lundqvist scored two tallies in seven postseason contests with Dallas. He also spent time with Iowa of the American Hockey League, notching 16 goals and 38 points in 40 games.
