Wings sign Datsyuk to three-year extension
Jun 18, 2013 - 3:50 PM Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward Pavel Datsyuk to a three-year contract extension through the 2016-17 season.Financial details were not released, but TSN of Canada reported it to be worth $23 million.
Datsyuk had one year remaining on his current contract, reported to be a seven-year, $46.9 million pact.
"Signed 3 yr. extension," Datsyuk wrote on his Twitter feed Tuesday. "Detroit, glad to be here for 4 more yrs.Thanks to our fans, friends and Ilitch family."
Datsyuk has played his entire NHL career with Detroit, joining the club for the 2001-02 season. He has 255 goals and 512 assists for 767 points in 779 career regular-season games, as well as 36 goals and 103 points in 140 playoff games.
The 34-year-old Russian native won a pair of Stanley Cup titles with Detroit and is a three-time winner of the Selke Trophy as the league's top defensive forward.
In 47 games during the shortened 2013 season, Datsyuk finished with 15 goals and 34 assists for 49 points.
