Capitals sign RW Clark to contract extension

Jul 19, 2007 - 12:28 AM ARLINGTON, Virginia (Ticker) -- The Washington Capitals signed right wing and team captain Chris Clark to a three-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

"Chris is a consummate professional and a terrific leader," Capitals general manager George McPhee said. "He has been an integral part of our team's growth in the past two seasons, both on and off the ice. We are excited that he will be a Washington Capital for many years to come."

Clark, 31, registered career highs of 30 goals and 24 assists in 74 games last season. He has collected 50 tallies and 93 points in two campaigns with the Capitals, who acquired him from the Calgary Flames prior to the 2005-06 season.

A third-round pick of Calgary in 1994, the South Windsor, Connecticut native has amassed 85 goals and 79 assists in 430 career games with the Flames and Capitals.
