Islanders sign RW Hunter to one-year contract

Aug 3, 2007 - 7:34 PM UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Islanders on Friday accepted the one-year arbitration ruling awarded to right wing Trent Hunter and have signed him to a one-year contract.

According to TSN of Canada, the contract is worth $1.55 million.

Last season, Hunter appeared in 77 games with the Islanders and scored 20 goals and added 15 assists.

"Letting Trent go was never a consideration for us," Islanders general manager Garth Snow said. "He's an important piece to our team; that was never up for debate. We're glad he'll be in an Islanders uniform in September."

In four NHL seasons, Hunter has played in 244 games, scoring 61 goals with 64 assists.

Hunter was a finalist for the Calder Trophy in 2003-04 as the NHL's rookie of the year. That season, he scored 25 goals with 26 assists and co-led the Islanders in scoring. Hunter was also named to the NHL All-Rookie Team that season.
