Ducks G Giguere has successful sports hernia surgery

Aug 6, 2007 - 10:26 PM ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Anaheim Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere underwent successful surgery on Monday to correct a sports hernia injury.

Giguere is expected to rejoin the Ducks during training camp and could return in time for the team's first on-ice practice on September 10.

The 30-year-old helped lead the Ducks to their first Stanley Cup last season, beating the Ottawa Senators in five games. During the playoffs, Giguere posted a 13-4 record with one shutout and a 1.97 goals-against average.

Last season, Giguere recorded a franchise record 36 wins, losing just 10 times, the fewest of any goalie in the NHL. The netminder also registered four shutouts, a 2.66 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.

The veteran is 156-134-44 in his career with 25 shutouts. He has posted a 2.48 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage in parts of nine seasons with the Hartford Whalers, Calgary Flames and Ducks.
