Isles sign G Johnson

Jul 1, 2014 - 5:01 PM Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Islanders solidified their situation in net on Tuesday, signing backup goaltender Chad Johnson to a two- year deal.

Johnson inked a contract reportedly worth $2.6 million with New York where he'll likely serve as the second option to Jaroslav Halak.

The Islanders signed Halak to a four-year deal worth a total of $18 million in late May and he expects to be the club's No. 1 goaltender heading into the 2014-15 season.

Johnson, 28, has played with the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and Phoenix Coyotes over his NHL career and is 20-6-6 with a 2.07 goals against average and .926 save percentage over 37 lifetime games.

The Saskatchewan native went 17-4-3 with a 2.10 GAA and .925 save percentage in 27 games last season as Tuukka Rask's backup in Boston.

The Isles also signed forward T.J. Brennan to a one-year deal. The 25-year-old had 25 goals and 47 assists in 76 games for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League in 2013-14. Brennan has recorded 11 points (4G, 7A) in 40 career games at the NHL level with Buffalo and Florida.
