Red Wings add Granato to bench
Jul 16, 2014 - 12:17 AM Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings named Tony Granato an assistant coach on Tuesday.Granato inked a one-year contract with a second-year option,
"I'm really looking forward to being a part of it and seeing what makes the Red Wings tick," said Granato, who was the head coach of the rival Colorado Avalanche from 2002-04 and 2008-09.
Granato, who played 13 seasons in the NHL, spent the past five years as an assistant coach in Pittsburgh and was also part of Team USA's coaching staff at the 2014 Olympics.
