Flyers take a chance on Colaiacovo
Oct 31, 2014 - 3:49 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Flyers announced following a 4-3 loss to the Lightning, that free agent defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo was signed to a contract. With long-term injuries to Braydon Coburn and Andrew MacDonald, and call-ups from Lehigh Valley a stop-gap measure, team general manager Ron Hextall sprang for some experience on the blue line.
Colaiacovo, 31, has 401 games under his belt with the Maple Leafs, Red Wings and Blues, but the Toronto native carries a reputation for being injury-prone. He has posted 31 goals and 133 assists in parts of 11 seasons.
The former first-round pick of the Leafs in 2001 appeared in just 25 games for St. Louis last season, totaling a goal and three assists, while cracking the lineup only 31 times in the last two years.
