Flyers captain Giroux out for Wednesday

Nov 18, 2014 - 10:37 PM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux will not suit up for Wednesday's rivalry night contest against the New York Rangers due to a lower-body injury.

"I can't give a definitive timeline, but we don't expect it will be a long time," said Flyers GM Ron Hextall on a conference call with reporters. "He was examined last night [Monday] by our doctor and everything looked good at that time. Between last night and this morning he wasn't feeling the same way. Further testing he just felt like he needs a little time off to get better."

Giroux suffered the injury at practice on Monday.

The 26-year-old Quebec native is also likely to sit out Thursday's home contest against the Minnesota Wild as well. Giroux has collected five goals and 16 assists in 16 games this season.

"He's been through the wringer now; his examinations are over," added Hextall. "You always examine at some point to give a guy the green-light to get back to playing or practicing, but as of right now we have the diagnosis."
