Sharks' Torres has another ACL surgery

Feb 26, 2015 - 11:32 PM San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Raffi Torres still hopes to return to the San Jose Sharks despite dealing with knee problems for the last two seasons.

To that end, the Mercury-News reported on Thursday that the Sharks revealed Torres underwent a second procedure to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He is expected to be ready to play by the start of training camp in September.

According to the paper, it was performed by an unnamed Minnesota specialist.

Torres originally suffered the injury during a preseason game on Sept. 20, 2013 in a collision with Ducks forward Emerson Etem. He went under the knife for the first time days later and eventually returned to play a total of 12 regular-season and playoff games late last season -- including all seven in San Jose's history-making first-round loss to Los Angeles.

However, he was forced to have a second surgery in late summer which attempted to clear up an infection which developed near the original damage. That procedure involved removing the graft previously implanted in his repaired knee during the first crack at reconstructing the torn ACL.

The 33-year-old has only made 28 combined appearances for the Sharks franchise since he was acquired in a trade with Phoenix in April of 2013.
