Sharks, Blackhawks trade forwards
Mar 2, 2015 - 7:28 PM San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Jose Sharks acquired forward Ben Smith along with a conditional seventh-round selection in 2017 from the Blackhawks in exchange for forward Andrew Desjardins ahead of Monday's trade deadline.Smith totaled just nine points (5G, 4A) in 61 games for Chicago this season, after striking for career highs of 14 goals, 12 assists and 26 points over 75 appearances last year.
The 26-year-old three-time champion (2008, '10 with Boston College; 2013 with Chicago) has posted 23 goals and 16 assists over 156 games in parts of four seasons for the Blackhawks.
Desjardins is a veteran of 272 NHL contests, all for the Sharks over the last five seasons. This year, the 28-year-old center has picked up five goals and three assists over 56 appearances.
In a smaller trade which was made official just before the above transaction was announced, the Sharks pulled in defenseman Karl Stollery from the Avalanche for forward Freddie Hamilton.
