Senators D McAmmond knocked unconscious, taken to hospital

Sep 26, 2007 - 3:01 AM OTTAWA (Ticker) -- Ottawa Senators defenseman Dean McAmmond was knocked unconscious early in the second period of Tuesday's exhibition game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

McAmmond was nailed by a heavy hit from Philadelphia right winger Steve Downie, who launched himself into the 34-year-old behind the net. McAmmond appeared to lose consciousness even before dropping to the ice.

McAmmond left the ice on a stretcher and was said to be conscious and had feeling and movement in his extremities. He was taken to hospital for further evaluation, where he was diagnosed with a concussion.
