Senators LW McAmmond knocked unconscious, taken to hospital

Sep 26, 2007 - 3:11 AM OTTAWA (Ticker) -- Ottawa Senators left wing Dean McAmmond was knocked unconscious early in the second period of Tuesday's preseason game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

McAmmond was nailed by a heavy hit from Philadelphia right wing Steve Downie, who launched himself into the 34-year-old behind the net. McAmmond appeared to lose consciousness even before dropping to the ice.

McAmmond, who left the ice on a stretcher, was said to be conscious and had feeling and movement in his extremities. He was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation and was diagnosed with a concussion.
