Senators LW McAmmond out with concussion

Sep 27, 2007 - 12:17 AM OTTAWA (Ticker) -- Concussions are wreaking havoc with Dean McAmmond.

McAmmond, who sustained a concussion in Game Three of the Stanley Cup Finals in June, on Tuesday suffered another head injury in the Ottawa Senators' preseason victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, the team announced Wednesday.

Early in the second period of Ottawa's 4-2 triumph, McAmmond was knocked unconscious on a hard check by Philadelphia's Steve Downie, who launched himself into the 34-year-old left wing. McAmmond appeared to lose unconsciousness before falling to the ice and was taken off on a stretcher.

Released from the hospital Wednesday, McAmmond underwent an examination that revealed no fractures. He will be attended to by the Senators' training staff for further treatment.
