Leafs clean house, fire GM and coach

Apr 12, 2015 - 5:04 PM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Toronto Maple Leafs made sweeping changes a day after the end of a disastrous season, firing general manager David Nonis and interim head coach Peter Horachek on Sunday.

Coaches Steve Spott, Chris Dennis and Rick St. Croix also lost their jobs. Steve Staios will continue to serve as manager of player development.

Toronto went 30-44-8 for 68 points, better than only Edmonton, Arizona and Buffalo.

The Maple Leafs were in a playoff position when Randy Carlyle was fired in January and replaced by Horachek. They went 9-28-5 over the final 42 games.

Nonis had been the Maple Leafs' general manager since Jan. 9, 2013. He joined the club as senior vice president of hockey operations on Dec. 6, 2008.

Toronto president Brendan Shanahan announced that assistant general manager Kyle Dubas and director of player personnel Mark Hunter will share the GM responsibilities while the team searches for a replacement.
