Oilers win lottery for top NHL draft pick

Apr 19, 2015 - 12:34 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers won the NHL Draft Lottery on Saturday and will have the No. 1 pick for the fourth time in six years.

The Oilers entered the lottery with the third-best chance of winning at 11.5 percent and jumped two spots.

Their selection this year will join Edmonton's other recent top overall picks Nail Yakupov (2012), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (2011) and Taylor Hall (2010). Erie Otters center Connor McDavid is the front-runner to be the top pick.

Buffalo finished dead-last in the NHL and had a 20 percent chance of taking the top pick, but will choose second. Arizona had a 13.5 percent chance of taking the top spot and will pick third.

Toronto, Carolina, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Columbus, San Jose and Colorado will round out the top 10, while Florida, Dallas, Los Angeles and Boston will pick 11 through 14.

The draft will be held at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida, from June 26-27.
