Islanders, C Park agree on two-year extension

Oct 7, 2007 - 5:28 PM UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Islanders on Sunday agreed with center Richard Park on a two-year contract extension through the 2009-10 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

A gritty player, Park had a career season in his first campaign with the Islanders last year, posting bests in assists (16) and points (26). He also tallied 10 goals in 82 games.

"Richard exemplifies the type of character players we want to be New York Islanders," general manager Garth Snow said. "He's a team-first guy who plays with his heart on his sleeve and battles every shift."

Park, 31, has appeared in 452 career games between six teams, collecting 60 goals and 73 assists for 133 points. He is just the second Korean-born player in the NHL.

"To say I'm happy would be an understatement," Park said. "I love this franchise. I'm very appreciative of the opportunity to stay with the Islanders for a long time."
