Hurricanes G Ward tops NHL's "Three Stars" of Week

Oct 15, 2007 - 7:22 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Starring on the road, Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward on Monday was named the NHL's "First Star" of the Week.

In the midst of a six-game road trip, Ward won three straight games last week, posting a 1.67 goals-against average and .939 save percentage.

After the Hurricanes absorbed a 2-0 loss in the first game of the road trip on October 6, Ward got the team back on track Tuesday, turning away 27 shots in a 7-1 victory at Toronto.

Following a 5-3 win at Ottawa on Thursday, Ward made 23 saves in a 3-1 victory at Montreal on Saturday. He improved to 4-0-1 with a 1.79 GAA and a .942 save percentage on the season.

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Brian Campbell and left wing Henrik Zetterberg of the Detroit Red Wings also were honored Monday.

Campbell had a goal and seven points in two wins, including four assists in a 7-3 victory over Washington on Saturday.

Zetterberg leads the league in scoring with 12 points after notching three goals and four assists in four games last week.

The left wing had two assists in a 4-2 win over Edmonton on Monday and added a goal and a pair of assists in a 4-1 victory over Los Angeles on Sunday.
