Flyers G Biron headlines NHL's "Three Stars" of Week

Oct 22, 2007 - 5:47 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- It is not just the dynamic offense that has the Philadelphia Flyers soaring again.

Flyers goaltender Martin Biron was named the NHL's "First Star" of the Week on Monday.

Along with an offense that is averaging a league-best 4.00 goals, Biron has been a critical reason for Philadelphia's 6-1-0 start, starting all seven games.

Last week, Biron won three games, posting a pair of shutouts en route to a 0.66 goals-against average and a .982 save percentage.

On Tuesday, the 30-year-old netminder turned aside 31 shots en route to a 4-0 win over Atlanta. Two days later, Biron recorded 38 saves en route to a 4-0 victory over New Jersey, notching his 20th career shutout.

Overall, Biron is 6-1-0 with a 1.57 GAA and .952 save percentage.

Calgary Flames right wing Jarome Iginla and center Jason Williams of the Chicago Blackhawks also were honored Monday.

Iginla led all scorers this past week with three goals and eight points as the Flames won two of three games. The two-time Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy winner had a pair of goals and an assist in Calgary's 5-4 shootout loss to Colorado on Tuesday.

Williams scored two goals and six points as the Blackhawks won two of three games this past week.
