Red Wings sign C Draper to three-year extension

Oct 26, 2007 - 3:24 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Kris Draper, a member of three Stanley Cup-winning teams with the Detroit Red Wings, signed a three-contract extension with the club Friday.

In his 14th season with the Red Wings, Draper has gotten off to a stellar start, recording five goals in his first 10 contests.

"Kris has been such an important part of this organization's success during his 14-year career here," Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. "We are fortunate to have secured a player with his leadership qualities and work ethic for the next three years."

Draper, 36, has enjoyed enormous success with the Red Wings, helping the storied franchise win Stanley Cups in 1997, 1998 and 2002.

In addition to his grit and leadership, Draper won the Selke Award in 2004 as the league's best defensive forward. He also represented Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Draper, who played his first three seasons with Winnipeg, has registered 137 goals and 302 points in 895 career contests.
