Flyers ink D Coburn to extension
Nov 28, 2007 - 5:46 PM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday signed defenseman Braydon Coburn to a multi-year contract extension.Financial terms were not disclosed.
Coburn, 22, has been a staple along the Flyers' blue-line this season, appearing in all 23 games. The Calgary, Alberta native has collected eight assists and 28 penalty minutes.
"It feels good, absolutely," Coburn said. "This really was not planned. The Flyers just contacted my agent and said that they were interested in getting a deal done right now and that is what we did. I'm excited."
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren sees potential development in Coburn, who was selected eighth overall by Atlanta in the 2003 draft.
"Braydon is a good young defenseman that we believe will continue to get better," Holmgren said.
Acquired on February 24 from Atlanta in a deal for defenseman Alexei Zhitnik, the 6-5, 220-pound Coburn has registered three goals and 20 points in 81 career games.
