Predators sign C Legwand

Dec 7, 2007 - 9:26 PM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- The Nashville Predators locked up David Legwand on Friday, signing the center to a six-year contract extension worth $27 million.

Legwand, 27, has recorded seven goals and 14 assists in 26 games this season for the Predators, his ninth with the club.

The second overall draft selection in 1998, Legwand has 113 goals and 191 assists in 510 career games - all with Nashville.

"This is the first step moving forward under new ownership and is a sign of commitment, a desire to win and a desire to keep the core of our young team together in Nashville," Predators general manager David Poile said.

The first draft selection in franchise history, Legwand is the Predators' all-time leader in goals, points (304) and game-winning goals (28). The Detroit native also ranks second in games and assists.

The 6-2 Legwand enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2006-07, setting career highs in goals (27), assists (36) and plus-minus rating (plus-23).

"David Legwand continues to improve and take on a larger role each season," Poile said. "He is entering the prime of his career, and we feel that he is becoming one of the league's most complete players."
