Flyers trade D Timonen to Stars
Dec 10, 2007 - 8:55 PM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- With a glut of defensemen in their minor league system, the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday traded Jussi Timonen to the Dallas Stars for a conditional pick in the 2009 draft. The Finnish Timonen played in just 14 games this season for the Philadelphia Phantoms, the Flyers' affiliate in the American Hockey League. He recorded seven assists and 14 penalty minutes.
"With the Phantoms having two defensemen coming back from injury, we have a logjam on defense," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "This will give him a chance to play."
Taken by Philadelphia in the fifth round of the 2001 draft, Timonen played in 14 games for the Flyers last season, registering four assists.
The 24-year-old Timonen, who is the younger brother of current Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen, was assigned to Iowa of the AHL by Dallas.
