Capitals recall G Johnson

Jan 12, 2008 - 6:57 PM ARLINGTON, Virginia (Ticker) -- The Washington Capitals on Saturday recalled goaltender Brent Johnson from Hershey of the American Hockey League.

The 30-year-old, who has a 3-4-1 record and 2.92 goals-against average for Washington this season, has not played since suffering a knee injury on December 27.

Johnson, who was sent to Hershey on Thursday, played for the Bears on Friday night and made 37 saves in a 3-1 loss to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The 6-3, 210-pound Johnson - a fifth-round choice of the Colorado Avalanche in the 1995 draft - has compiled a 95-84-22 career record over seven NHL seasons.

In a corresponding move, the Capitals assigned goaltender Frederic Cassivi to Hershey.

Cassivi, 32, returns to Hershey after backing up starting netminder Olaf Kolzig in Washington for five games. He did not see any action in those games, but has played 13 career NHL games, including five with the Capitals in the last two seasons.

Cassivi has a 10-10-1 record in 21 appearances for the Bears this season, posting a 3.10 GAA.
