Capitals re-sign LW Brashear

Jan 25, 2008 - 4:49 AM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Capitals on Thursday signed veteran tough guy Donald Brashear for at least another season.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

A rugged left wing who never has registered more than 28 points in a season in a career that started in 1993-94, Brashear is in his second season with the Capitals. He has collected three goals, six points and 72 penalty minutes in 50 games.

"It's awesome," Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau said following his team's 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. "Whether the physical play in the NHL is down, it's pretty nice to have the biggest dog on the block on your team - and I think we do.

"He's been a great contributor, other than just from a physical presence. In the room and on the ice, I couldn't have asked for more from Donald. To me, it's a great reward and a deserved reward."

Brashear, 36, also has played with Montreal, Vancouver and Philadelphia in his career. He has registered 82 goals, 198 points and 2,393 penalty minutes in 896 career games.
