Red Wings place Hasek, Rafalski on IR

Feb 20, 2008 - 10:50 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings placed goaltender Dominik Hasek and defenseman Brian Rafalski on injured reserve Wednesday.

The moves came just hours after All-Star defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom told reporters he would miss the next three weeks with a knee injury.

Hasek, 43, has been sidelined since February 9 with hip flexor inflammation. He is 19-7-3 with a league-best 2.07 goals-against average this season.

A six-time Vezina Trophy winner, Hasek is 381-220-82-13 with a 2.20 GAA over his 16-year career.

Rafalski, 34, has been out of action with a sore groin since February 12.

The 5-10, Rafalski - in his first campaign with the Red Wings after seven seasons with the New Jersey Devils - had already set a new career high with 10 goals this season to go along with 36 assists.

In 600 games with the Devils and Red Wings, Rafalski has recorded 54 goals and 303 assists.

In a corresponding move, defenseman Jonathan Ericsson and center Mark Hartigan were recalled from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.
