Selanne named NHL's "First Star"

Feb 25, 2008 - 7:21 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- One day after recording his 20th career hat trick, Anaheim Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne on Monday was named the NHL's "First Star of the Week".

Also honored were goaltenders Miikka Kiprusoff of the Calgary Flames and Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils.

Selanne tallied seven points in a 3-0-0 week for the Ducks, including a five-point game in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

He increased his goal total to 546, passing Maurice Richard (544) for 25th on the all-time list. The 15-year veteran also registered his 600th career assist in Sunday's victory.

Selanne has revitalized the defending Stanley Cup champions as they have gone 9-1 since he returned to the lineup. The Finnish superstar contemplated retirement before re-signing with the Ducks on January 28.

Brodeur was named the league's "Second Star" after posting a 1.48 goals-against average and four wins for the Devils, who have taken over the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Kiprusoff earned the "Third Star" honor after helping the Flames move into first place in the Northwest Division. He went 3-0-0 with a 0.67 goals-against last week, stopping 100 of 102 shots.
