Sabres D Tallinder ruled out

Mar 5, 2008 - 7:02 PM BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- Buffalo Sabres defenseman Henrik Tallinder will not play Wednesday against the Washington Capitals.

Tallinder left Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers late in the first period after was hit from behind into the boards by Scottie Upshall.

After laying face down and motionless for a few moments, a clearly dazed Tallinder was helped off the ice and did not return.

"We don't know yet (the extent of the injury)," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff told the Buffalo News. "He's got shoulder and neck (problems), and he's hurting a little bit. He won't play (Wednesday)."

The Swede, who assisted on captain Jason Pominville's goal 62 seconds into the contest, is plus-7 with no goals and 12 assists in 59 games this season.

Buffalo (32-26-9) has 73 points and is one point behind the Flyers (33-26-8) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Washington (31-28-8) is four points behind the Flyers, but just three back of first-place Carolina (34-29-5) in the Southeast Division.
