Ducks RW Perry out six weeks

Mar 7, 2008 - 11:27 PM ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Anaheim Ducks right wing Corey Perry will miss six weeks while recovering from a laceration to his right leg, the team announced Friday.

Perry suffered the injury midway through the third period of Thursday's 1-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. While driving to the net, Perry was cut by the skate of Avalanche goaltender Jose Theodore.

The Ducks officially diagnosed the injury as a right quad tendon laceration and revealed that Perry was not in any serious danger.

After being rushed to a hospital Thursday night, Perry underwent successful surgery performed by Avalanche team physician Dr. Andy Parker. The Ducks announced that Perry likely will be released from the hospital as early as Friday.

"Corey is doing very well this morning, thanks to both clubs' medical staffs," Ducks general manager Brian Burke said. "His injury is not career-threatening, and we expect him back 100 percent in approximately six weeks."

The long-term absence of Perry creates a serious scoring void for the reigning Stanley Cup champion Ducks (38-25-7), who entered Friday third in the Pacific Division with 83 points - four behind the first-place Dallas Stars (41-24-5).

Perry, 22, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Anaheim, scoring a team-leading 29 goals and adding 25 assists in 70 games.

To replace the All-Star, the Ducks on Friday recalled right wing Bobby Ryan from Portland of the American Hockey League.

Drafted second overall in 2005, Ryan made his NHL debut earlier this season and scored his first career goal in Anaheim's opener against the Los Angeles Kings in London, England on September 29.

A native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, the 20-year-old Ryan has recorded three tallies and two assists in 13 games with the Ducks this campaign. With Portland, he has notched 21 goals and 49 points in 48 contests.

Anaheim has won 11 of its last 14 games but has been shut out in each of its last two contests.
