Legwand pleads guilty to reckless driving

Mar 13, 2008 - 12:43 AM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Nashville Predators center David Legwand on Wednesday pleaded guilty to reckless driving stemming from his DUI offense last month, according to a report in The Tennessean.

The 27-year-old Legwand was given six months probation and was order to complete a DUI class, according to the report.

"Obviously I wanted to get it over with and limit the distractions," Legwand told the newspaper after the sentencing at Davidson County Court. "I am glad that it's over with and I am moving on."

According to a police report, Legwand's 2006 Range Rover was clocked going 51 miles per hour in a 35 mph-zone zone near the downtown area on February 15.

The police report said that Legwand was pulled over and that his "eyes were bloodshot and watery, and his pupils were dilated." The report also stated that Legwand had "an obvious odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath."

Legwand told police that he was driving home from a concert and refused to take a breath test, according to the report. The Detroit native acknowledged the incident Saturday following Nashville's 6-3 loss to the Dallas Stars.

Legwand, who is sidelined with a deep bone bruise in his foot, has appeared in 65 games this season and recorded 15 goals and 29 assists.

The second overall draft selection in 1998 and the first pick in Predators franchise history, Legwand signed a six-year, $27 million deal with the Predators on December 7. He has spent his entire nine-year career in Nashville, scoring 121 goals and 327 points.
