Ducks G Giguere out vs. Coyotes

Mar 23, 2008 - 2:13 AM GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Suffering from back spasms, Anaheim Ducks goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere did not dress for Saturday's contest against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Giguere also did not play in Friday's 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks after aggravating the injury during pregame warmups. He served as the backup to rookie Jonas Hiller, who made a season-high 41 saves.

Hiller, who is 7-6-1 with a 2.15 goals-against average in 14 games this season, once again got the start Saturday.

In 56 games this season, Giguere has posted a 33-17-6 record with four shutouts and a 2.11 GAA.

The 30-year-old helped lead the Ducks to their first Stanley Cup last season, beating the Ottawa Senators in five games. During the playoffs, Giguere posted a 13-4 record with one shutout and a 1.97 GAA.

Last season, Giguere recorded a franchise-record 36 wins, losing just 10 times - the fewest of any goalie in the NHL. The netminder also registered four shutouts, a 2.66 GAA and a .918 save percentage.

The veteran is 189-151-50 in his career with 29 shutouts. He has posted a 2.43 GAA and a .915 save percentage in parts of nine seasons with the Hartford Whalers, Calgary Flames and Ducks.
