Red Wings LW Kopecky out for season
Apr 5, 2008 - 12:00 AM DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings on Friday announced that left wing Tomas Kopecky will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL in approximately two weeks.Kopecky suffered a sprained MCL and torn ACL during Thursday's 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. His recovery is expected to take between four and six weeks.
The 26-year-old Kopecky tallied five goals and 12 points in 77 games this season.
The Red Wings also signed left wing Justin Abdelkader to a three-year entry level contract that runs through the 2009-10 NHL season.
Abdelkader, who made his NHL debut Thursday, spent the past three season playing for Michigan State. He scored the game-winning goal with 19 seconds left in the 2007 national championship game and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player of the Frozen Four.
