Flyers D Timonen injured

Apr 16, 2008 - 5:45 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Philadelphia defenseman Kimmo Timonen suffered an upper body injury late in the second period of the Flyers' 6-3 victory in Game Three of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

Timonen was checked into the Capitals' net by Brooks Laich with less than a minute remaining in the second. The All-Star appeared to collide with the camera stationed at the bottom of the net and remained on the ice in obvious pain before being attended to by a team trainer and retreating to the locker room.

The Finnish blue-liner did not return and, according to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren, is questionable for Game Four of the series on Thursday.

"Kimmo is our best defenseman," Holmgren said. "The fact that he is hurt and since we are uncertain about how bad it is, yes, I'll say I'm concerned."

"He is going to be further evaluated and hopefully not going to be out too long," Philadelphia coach John Stevens added. "He took a hit from behind and he went into the net. I don't know if he hit the camera, but he hit something in the back of the net."
