Franzen to miss Game One of Cup Finals

May 24, 2008 - 1:59 AM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Detroit Red Wings center Johan Franzen will miss Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday due to concussion-like symptoms.

Franzen practiced with the Red Wings on Friday and claimed he was "feeling good."

"He's flying around, going 100 miles an hour," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "Looks like 100 bucks, no side effects. Looks to me like he's ready to play, but that's why I don't make those decisions."

But Franzen, the NHL's leading goal scorer in the postseason, told reporters he has not been medically cleared to play Saturday, when the Red Wings host the Pittsburgh Penguins.

"I'm not playing tomorrow," Franzen said. "I'm doing more checkups tomorrow and just waiting for the doctor to clear me. I'm feeling good."

Franzen, who has scored 12 goals this postseason, has not played since Game One of the Western Conference finals against the Dallas Stars.
