Holmstrom to play in Game Five

Jun 1, 2008 - 9:49 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock announced on Sunday that left wing Tomas Holmstrom will play in Game Five of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After Holmstrom sat out Game Four due to a sore hamstring, Babcock told the Detroit News that the talented Swede will return to the ice as the Red Wings look to close out the Penguins on Monday and wrap up their 11th Stanley Cup championship.

"Tommy is playing," Babcock told the newspaper following Sunday's optional team skate.

Holmstrom suffered the injury late in the third period of Detroit's 3-2 loss in Game Three on Wednesday, when he was knocked down by Pittsburgh defenseman Hal Gill with 5:50 remaining in the third period.

The 35-year-old Holmstrom has recorded four goals and eight assists in 19 games this postseason.

The Red Wings hold a three-games-to-one advantage in the best-of-seven series.
