Red Wings LW Holmstrom has hernia surgery
Jun 12, 2008 - 12:52 AM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Detroit Red Wings left wing Tomas Holmstrom on Wednesday underwent surgery in Philadelphia to repair a sports hernia, according to a report by the Detroit Free Press.Red Wings general manager Ken Holland told the Free Press that Holmstrom will need six to eight weeks to recover from the procedure. The 35-year-old Swede reportedly had been suffering from the hernia since March.
Holmstrom recorded four goals and eight assists in 21 playoff games during the Red Wings' run to the Stanley Cup championship. During the regular season, he registered 20 goals and 40 points in 59 contests.
